These included the effects of nitrification inhibitors on the ammonia-oxidizing archaeon <em>Nitrososphaera viennensis<\/em>, explored through transcriptomic and proteomic approaches, the use of synthetic microbial communities (SynComs) to more realistically assess the impact of biological nitrification inhibitors on soil nitrifiers, and the environmental fate of these inhibitors in soil environments.<\/p>\n<p>This participation further strengthened the Department\u2019s international profile in the fields of microbial ecology and sustainable nitrogen management in
