The Department of Environmental Sciences organized three (3) educational site visits that took place on Tuesday 12/11/2024 as part of the Environmental Biotechnology course. Students accompanied by their teacher, prof Elias ANASTASSOPOULOS, who organised the trip on behalf of the department, visited the following companies operating within the Larissa region:
- AgriGas, a pioneer in biomass energy. The participating students were shown around the company facilities and had the opportunity to learn more about the synthetic gas (syngas) produced by the AgriGas gasification unit, as well as the company’s activities mainly regarding environmental protection.
- ProGnosis Biotech, an innovative biotechnology company. The students were welcomed at the company HQ and attended a demonstration of a test for the detection of flour from genetically modified soybeans. They also had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the company’s detection kits, their operating principle, and the relevant software developed by the company.
- BIOTROHOS, a Tire Recycling company. The participating students toured the facilities, led by the company CEO, and leant more about the operation of the rubber production plant, as well as its various uses in the company products. They asked questions regarding the processing of tires, mainly of heavy vehicles, the production of rubber and environmental protection.
